所謂的激光制冷機，在廣義上等同于我們所提到的制冷設備。廣義的激光制冷機是指制冷行業(yè)內(nèi)所有與制冷相關的機械與設備，也就是說，制冷行業(yè)內(nèi)所有用到的機械設備，都可稱之為激光制冷機。
激光制冷機的主要性能指標有工作溫度（對蒸氣壓縮式激光制冷機為蒸發(fā)溫度和冷凝溫度，對氣體壓縮式激光制冷機和半導體激光制冷機為被冷物體的溫度和冷卻介質的溫度），制冷量（激光制冷機單位時間內(nèi)從被冷卻物體移去的熱量）、功率或耗熱量、制冷系數(shù)（衡量壓縮式激光制冷機經(jīng)濟性的指標，指消耗單位功所能得到的冷量）以及熱力系數(shù)（衡量吸收式和蒸汽噴射式激光制冷機經(jīng)濟性的指標，指消耗單位熱量所能得到的冷量）等。現(xiàn)代激光制冷機以蒸氣壓縮式激光制冷機應用廣。
